Oh how we love sugar! Yet, in the book ‘Sugar Blues’, the author talks about Dr. William Coda Martin, who classified refined sugar as a poison in the 1950’s because it has been refined and depleted of its life forces, vitamins and minerals.
This book also states that eating sugar causes incomplete carbohydrate metabolism. A toxic substance is formed that interferes with the functioning of the cells. So they can’t get enough oxygen to survive or function normally. In time this causes some of those cells to die. This in turn interferes with the function of a part of the body, often where a person is the weakest, and is the beginning of degenerative disease.
Yet sugar and junk food cravings plague us I say junk food because refined carbohydrates are also a part of the problem. Much of our daily diet is composed of these refined carbohydrates today. Junk food often contains a lot of sugar plus the refined carbs themselves turn readily into sugar in our bodies. Besides most packaged food and refined sugar this also includes white flour, polished rice [refined], pasta and most breakfast cereals.
It’s no wonder so many degenerative diseases are showing up. Dr. John Yudkin, a physician, biochemist and professor, who looked at the causes of ulcers, stated that “sugar irritates the lining of the esophagus, duodenum (the portion at the top of the stomach) and the stomach itself”.
Getting the body back in balance is the secret to handling sugar cravings. Kicking the sugar habit can help you feel better, look better and have a better mental outlook.
Sugar has been a powerful influence on our world’s history and on nation’s economies. The book ‘Sugar Blues’ even implies it has been the cause of the rise and fall of civilizations. Don’t let all its popularity and accessibility fool you. It IS a poison and overconsuming it can slowly ruin your health, your looks and your shape. Take control now.
